    The Freedom House Index of 2011 ranked Sierra Leone as a partly free country with a Political Rights Score of 3 (1 corresponds most free, 7 corresponds least free). Human rights abuses include the excessive force of the security force, poor prison conditions, official impunity, arbitrary arrest, prolonged detention and discrimination and violence against women. Freedom of speech and press are restricted as authorities interfere in it.
